After a totally cloudy evening on 29th October, the clouds parted at about 10:15pm to reveal aurora across the northern sky. We travelled to a position about 11 miles north-east of central Glasgow and by this time almost all the cloud had disappeared. We watched the display until 12:15am. Initially we saw greenish rays and curtains low in the north, but as the display intensified, particularly just before midnight, there was also a display of streamers radiating from zenith. This included some rapid movement and pulsating, and on occasions some of the streamers were bright red. The display was always somewhat diffuse and perhaps not the brightest I have ever seen, but still very well worth the journey to see it.

You may notice strange rings in some of these pictures. These are caused by the use of a daylight filter which I forgot to remove from the camera.
